September 9 — NELPAG member Kelly Beatty made a presentation about light pollution to the Maria Mitchell Association in Nantucket, MA.

July 7 — In Salem, MA, the City Council’s Public Safety, Health and Environment Committee held a public hearing on plans to install LED streetlights. Among the presenters was NELPAG’s Kelly Beatty, who encouraged the city to install fixtures with a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3000K or lower.

June 30 — The MA Legislature’s Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy held a public hearing for “An Act improving outdoor lighting and increasing dark-sky visibility,” sponsored jointly by Senator Cynthia Creem and Representative Sean Garballey. The respective bill numbers are S.1751 and H.2878. Sen. Creem spoke in favor of the bills, as did Kelly Beatty (represented NELPAG) and Glenn Heinmiller (International Association of Lighting Designers).
